Crafting the Sound of Rule 46
We are delighted to announce that we are currently providing audio post-production services for Rule 46, an exciting new 25-minute science fiction short film written and directed by Kevin Hunter. Our work on the project includes dialogue editing and mixing, music mixing, Foley editing, and the recording of additional custom Foley to help bring every scene to life with a rich, immersive cinematic soundtrack. With science fiction demanding exceptional attention to detail in both atmosphere and storytelling, every sound plays a vital role in supporting the emotion, tension and scale of the film, and we're proud to be contributing to that creative vision.
Kevin Hunter is internationally recognised for an extraordinary career spanning more than three decades, during which he has supplied ideas, concepts, production designs, visualisations and storyboards for some of the world's biggest film, television and entertainment productions. His creative contributions have been seen across acclaimed titles including Ghostbusters, Dune, Andor, Halo, Wednesday and Game of Thrones, along with numerous commercials, music videos and theme park attractions. Having the opportunity to collaborate on Rule 46 is a fantastic experience, and we're incredibly proud to be part of such an ambitious independent production. We look forward to sharing more behind-the-scenes updates as the project progresses, with additional details about the film coming soon.

Applications Now Open for 2026/27 Music & Sound Production Courses
Applications are now open for our 2026/27 Music and Sound Production courses, delivered in partnership with Adult Education Cornwall. Following another fantastic year, we're excited to welcome a new cohort of learners looking to develop practical skills in music production, studio recording, live sound and audio technology. Our popular Level 1 and Level 2 courses run over eight months and provide hands-on, industry-focused learning for anyone wanting to begin or develop a career in the creative industries.
We're also expanding our course offering with a selection of new 10-week, non-qualification programmes, each delivered in weekly three-hour sessions. New courses include An Introduction to Sound and Music for Visual Media Industries and Studio Recording and Production Techniques, alongside our enjoyable Wellbeing Through Music sessions, designed to encourage creativity, confidence and personal wellbeing through music.
Whether you're looking to gain new skills, explore a creative passion or take the first step towards a career in audio, we'd love to welcome you in 2026/27.

Celebrating an Incredible Year!
As another academic year comes to a close, everyone at Black & Gold would like to congratulate our incredible Level 1 and Level 2 Music and Sound Production students on everything they have achieved throughout the year. It has been a privilege to watch each student develop not only their technical skills in music production, recording and mixing, but also their confidence, creativity and professionalism.
Throughout the year they have embraced new challenges, collaborated on exciting projects, supported one another and demonstrated the passion and commitment that are essential to building a successful career in the creative industries.
Education is about far more than gaining qualifications; it's about discovering your potential, developing resilience and finding your own creative voice. We are incredibly proud of the progress every student has made, regardless of where their journey began. Whether you're progressing to the next level of study, moving into higher education, seeking employment or continuing to develop your skills independently, we hope you carry forward the knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm you've built during your time with us. Studio Move Underway But Business Continues as Usual!
Exciting things are happening at Black & Gold! We've recently dismantled our main studio in preparation for an exciting new studio build and relocation. While there may be plenty of activity behind the scenes, we'd like to reassure all of our clients that it's business as usual. Throughout the summer, all of our audio post-production services—including dialogue editing, sound design, Foley and composition will continue uninterrupted from our second studio in Falmouth UK.
This move marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Black & Gold, and we can't wait to share what's coming next. Our new studio will provide an even better creative environment, enhanced facilities and an inspiring new location for future projects and collaborations. If you're working on a film, television, podcast, music or multimedia project and need professional audio post-production over the coming months, we'd love to hear from you. Micro Monday's - Inside Launch!
Monday 23rd February see the launch of Micro Monday's, a new weekly short-form video series offering practical insights into the tools and techniques used in our own professional audio post-production.
Each 1–2 minute episode presented by Si Gordon will explore a key piece of hardware or software used daily in the studio, and will break down features, real-world application, and how these tools help deliver high-quality sound for film, podcasts, audiobooks, and various media projects.
Designed for creators, producers, and aspiring audio professionals, the series provides concise, actionable knowledge straight from a working post-production environment.
“Micro Monday's" is about sharing real studio insight with no fluff, just quick fire practical knowledge you can use immediately.”

Behind the session for Bandlab.
Last week in the studio we were recording a jazz double bass session for an upcoming BandLab loop pack, capturing warmth, groove, and all the natural nuance that makes the instrument breathe.
From mic placement to performance feel, this session was all about authentic, playable loops that musicians and producers can drop straight into their tracks. Every note was recorded organically, with tone and musicality front and centre.

The Sound Fix Launch!
The 25/09/25 see's the launch of our new Sound Fix Live Clinic with Si Gordon and friends, a monthly drop-in session for music producers of all levels. For 1 hour it’s your chance to ask anything about composing, recording, arranging, sound design, mixing, mastering, and production workflow. Get your problems solved live, meet other passionate producers, and discover how the Black & Gold Audio Academy can also take your skills to the next level. Music Tech Ensemble - Y1 Live!
Our under-16 Music Tech in Performance ensemble has had an incredible first year, coming together as a brand-new group to write, rehearse, and perform original music to an exceptional standard.
Their journey culminated in a standout performance at the prestigious Music for Youth finals at Birmingham Symphony Hall, a testament to their talent, teamwork, and hard work. Just days before, they also took to the stage at a sold-out Hall for Cornwall, holding their own alongside more seasoned acts.
Their achievements this year mark the beginning of something truly special that you too can be involved in if you are in Cornwall and between the ages of 13 - 16 year.... GET INVOLVED HERE!!

The Gong - NI Kontakt Instrument
We have been busy developing a brand-new NI Kontakt instrument called The Gong, built from a unique recording session with a skilled gong player and their healing gong.
We captured a range of tones, strikes, and resonances, then took things further by processing the recordings through guitar pedals and modular synths to create rich, atmospheric textures.
After careful editing and programming, these sounds have been brought to life in a custom designed Kontakt GUI. The Gong is now available — completely free over on our 'Sampl'd page for anyone looking to add deep, organic, and otherworldly sonic layers to their music.

ASONE Live Launched..
Simon is now a co-director of the new Asone Live company, a subsidiary of Asone Perform and HUB which will look to being 16 + industry training and mentorships for those wanting to gain qualifications and merits in the Live Event Production, Film & Sound production industries.
In the last two weeks he has been involved in a pilot project for students based on event performance, music and sound production. This is an exciting period of development for the whole ASONE project based at St Merryn Airfields in Cornwall and he is extremely proud to be part of this new venture for young people in the South West of England.

Student Celebrations 2024/25
This year’s cohort of Music & Sound Production students across Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 has achieved outstanding success, with all 42 learners completing the academic year.
Their dedication, creativity, and growth have been evident across projects, performances, and technical development, reflecting the strength of our curriculum and teaching team. We’re proud of every student’s progress and achievements, and with nearly all places filled for September, we look forward to welcoming the next wave of talent to build on this year’s momentum.

Fern Britton Voiceover Session
We have just completed a VO recording session with Fern Britton for Channel 5 through Boom TV & Gorilla TV post production, the 4 part series entitled 'Summer In The Isles of Scilly' will be landing at some point in 2025. Fern has such a wonderful narration voice, we could listen to her all day long and she was a pleasure to work with, as we're the post production crew :)
