Crystal Tones (NKT)
Designed and built by: Si Gordon.
Story:
Crystal Tones was born out of a recent recording session for a friend who wanted them recorded and made into a Logic X Sampler instrument for her SoundBath meditation workshops. I have recorded each bowl using their 7-note scale, IE the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B. The original ‘Sampler’ and Kontakt 5 RAW instruments contain a combination of long drones and short hits with a felt mallet. My main aim was to always manipulate these samples further, so I set about running them through a series of guitar pedals including a Strymon Nightsky, Julia Chorus and Strymon Timeline. The result has created something even more etherial than the originals and I am really happy with the result… enjoy.

Gran's T-Brush (NKT)
Designed and built by: Si Gordon.
Story:
One night whilst lying in bed, my wife was brushing her teeth in the ensuite with her new present and I was really attracted to the tone of the toothbrush, thinking ‘I must record that and make an instrument’. Forward wind a few months and it’s exactly what I did, routing the sampled brush through my Moog Grandmother for additional guitar pedal type processing. I kept it quite simple as I was keen to add some effects on the Kontakt instrument itself, so went with an additional low-level 4′ pulse wave mixed with the original toothbrush sound and then used some simple filtering on the Grandmother.
Each note on the Grandmother has been sampled at 2 different velocities and then added to Kontakt 7 where each velocity note has been looped for continual playback. I have added some EQ & Compression within the chain of instrument effects, these are not available on the front panel like the other effects. All FX can be changed ‘under the hood’. I have left the interface quite simple and self-explanatory to use…
Have fun and enjoy the sound, here’s a quick video of the process.. any feedback would be greatly appreciated 🙂

TunisSpacepipe (NKT)
Designed and built by: Si Gordon.
Story:
Tunis SpacePipe, or my processed version of a Tunisian market pipe was inspired by a recent trip to the cities of Sousse and surrounding areas near Tunis, where, in a medina I came upon a handcrafted pipe and I instantly thought ‘sampler instrument’.
Once the original pipe was recorded (I don’t play so it took some doing) I made a quick single-octave instrument in Kontakt that could then be output and played through an array of guitar pedals in order to achieve the desired sound. Pedals used were the Strymon Timeline and Nightsky plus a little Walrus Audio Chorus V2 for good measure.
The result is this new ethereal pipe pad that has haunting distant tones, with a sweeping filter modulation that can have further effects applied through the Kontakt parameters that i have chosen, use these to design to your desire, it’s really a lot of fun to tweak.. enjoy!

The Ice Organ (NKT)
Designed and built by: Si Gordon.
Story:
I created this Kontakt instrument from recording an old 1960’s Rosedale/Magnus chord organ bought on a nostalgic whim from Marketplace, my grandmother had one and as a child I used to tinker with it. The original organ sounds very much like an accordion, is noisy and quite frankly not at all inspiring so I set about recording it, noise reducing, editing it, making a basic instrument from which to then play through some of my external guitar pedals which resulted in a rather eerie organ type pad that shimmers (hence the ice title). Once recorded, edited and added to Kontakt, I built a basic interface to apply some further effect processing that can add even more weirdness and distortion too.. I hope you like it 🙂

Chord Organ (NKT)
Designed and built by: Si Gordon.
Story:
I created this Kontakt instrument out of an old 1960’s Rosedale/Magnus chord organ bought on a nostalgic whim from Marketplace with the intention of turning it into something new and amazing (see Ice Organ), my grandmother had one and as a child I used to tinker with it. This original organ sounds very much like an accordion, is noisy and quite frankly not at all inspiring but here it is in it's rAW form for you. I set about recording it, noise reducing, editing it, and making this basic instrument. I hope you like it 🙂

Convo-Verbs (IR's)
Recorded & Edited by: Si Gordon.
Story:
I love creating my own acoustic reverbs so here a selection of my own recorded convolution reverbs recorded with either a ballon or starter pistol as an Impulse and the responses are the environments they were recorded in, IE a selection of local internal and external spaces.. Load these into some native or 3rd party software capable of loading IR's and use to your hearts content! Enjoy

RezzoPot (NKT)
Designed and built by: Si Gordon.
RezzoPot came to life as part of an experiment and review of harmonics in everyday items that we may consider turning into 'sampler instruments' If you watch the video you will understand (see TUTS page). Several pot were chosen from around my house and this particular 'Mr Cream' flowerpot came out on top harmonically so I set about recording, editing and adding to a standard Logic Sampler to create a pitchable instrument. However, it soon became apparent that this could be something more so i began running it through some synth modules and guitar pedals and eventually settled upon running it through MI 'Rings', a resonator euro rack module which added some further clarity and harmonics to the sound. From there the Kontakt instrument was created with some really useful 'one knob' effects that can really allow further processing, it can be bass, a percussive instrument, a lead, a bell, a pad and so much more.. enjoy :)
